Arizona's small game species include quail, chukka, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, squirrels, ducks, geese, swan, sandhill cranes, coot, snipe, mourning and white-winged doves and band-tailed pigeon. One or more of these species occur in virtually all vegetation types throughout Arizona, from the highest mountains to the lowest plains; forests, wetlands, and deserts; and farmlands, cities, and wilderness.

There's hunting for 3 species of quail: Gambel's quail, scaled quail and Mearns' or Montezuma quail. Another quail, formerly found in Arizona, the masked bobwhite, is listed federally as an endangered species.
